Alexandre Schmitz

Member of the Board

Alexandre Schmitz (1970) is the CEO of BeCapital. He is a member of Cobepa’s Executive Committee. He serves or served as a non-executive director of Belron, Carrières du Hainaut, ChemCom, Goëmar, Princess Yachts, TechnoMarine and Zetes. He started his career in 1995 as a financial analyst with Bank Degroof. He joined Cobepa in 1999 as an Investment Manager. He was then an Investment Director of PAI Partners and then of Cobepa. Alexandre has a Master's Degree in Economics (magna cum laude) from the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium) and is a Certified European Financial Analyst. He is a Lecturer at Executive Master in Management program of the Solvay Business School (Belgium). He is also a Professor at the National Economics University of Hanoi and at the Open University in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).

Dr. Christian C. Wenger

President of the Board

Christian Wenger (1964) is a lawyer and partner at the Wenger & Vieli AG law firm in Zurich. Christian Wenger specialises in commercial and economic law with a particular focus on the Private Equity, Venture Capital and M&A sectors. Christian Wenger holds offices as a committee member of the SECA (Swiss Association for Private Equity and Corporate Finance) and as the president of CTI Invest, a union of investors linked with the nationally owned innovation agency, KTI. Within the scope of his professional duties he sits on various supervisory boards for Swiss and international companies (e.g. Falcon Private Bank, Peach Properties AG, Klinik Lindberg AG, Looser Holding AG). Christian Wenger holds a doctorate from the University of Zurich (Dr. iur.) and completed his studies at Duke University School of Law, North Carolina with a Masters of Laws.

Dr. Peter Rutishauser

Peter Rutishauser (1956) has been in business since 1989. Together with partners he purchased several businesses in Switzerland and Germany and led them to success as managing director (amongst them Sigg Switzerland AG). He also chaperons various medium-sized and public companies as an active member of the supervisory board (Trisport AG, Glatz AG, Humanis AG, LEM Holding SA). He began his career in management consulting. Peter Rutishauser holds a doctorate in natural sciences from the ETH Zurich and received his licentiate economics at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). He is a graduate of the Owner President Management Programme (OPM) at Harvard Business School.

Hans-Joachim Danzer

Member of the Board

Since 2002, Hans-Joachim Danzer (1970) has been managing the third generation of the Danzer Group; a company that specialises in high quality cut veneers, trimmed timber and wood surfaces. Prior to assuming overall responsibility for the Group, he worked at its Canadian and American subsidiary companies. Before coming to the Danzer Group, Hans-Joachim Danzer worked with the Boston Consulting Group for four years in Munich and Stuttgart. He studied at the University of St. Gallen, where he graduated with a lic. oec. HSG.

Kaspar E. A. Wenger

Kaspar Wenger (1959) is chairman of the executive board of Holcim (Switzerland) AG. He started with Holcim in 1994. After an introductory phase in the subsidiary company in New Zealand, he opened the branch in Beijing, China, which he managed on site for three years. From 1999 to 2000, Kaspar Wenger was assistant to the company manager responsible for the Far East division. In the winter of 2000 he moved into the general management of Holcim (Switzerland) AG, where he was responsible for cement sales and marketing for nearly four years. In the spring of 2004 he was promoted to his current position. This business economist, who graduated from the University of St. Gallen, got his first job experience at UBS in the Investment Banking sector.

Laurent Vermer

Laurent Vermer (1973) is an Investment Director at BeCapital. He served as a non-executive director of Helveta. Prior to that, he spent most of his career executing cross-border M&A and leverage financing transactions for Paribas, Tractebel / Suez Energy, Anheuser-Busch Inbev and Eiger Ventures, an M&A boutique focusing on the consumer goods and retail industries. While at Anheuser-Busch InBev, Laurent also served as Commercial Director France. Laurent has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Solvay Business School (cum laude) and an MBA from INSEAD (with Honours).

Martin Brettenthaler

Martin Brettenthaler (1970) worked for The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for several years in Munich and Paris, after completing his studies in economics at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris. From 2000 to 2004 he was a member of the group management team at the HIAG Group and as COO successfully led seven businesses (insulating materials, wholesale trade, doors, and pallets) through an intensive restructuring and turnaround phase. Since 2001 he has been a delegate to the supervisory board of Pavatex SA, in which he acquired a significant minority stake in 2004. In the course of the acquisition of HIAG’s stake in Pavatex by Chemolio, Martin Brettenthaler significantly increased his share in Pavatex. Martin Brettenthaler is a member of the board of the international environmental organisation natureplus e.V. in Germany, whose goal is sustainable development in the building sector; in France he was between 2006 and 2008 president of the FEROPA/NFB, the umbrella organisation of European fibreboard producers.

Yves Bailly

Yves BAILLY (1961) is the President, General Manager of NORSKE SKOG GOLBEY SAS (NSG), a subsidiary of the Norwegian NORSKE SKOGINDUSTRIER (NSI) Group. NSG manufactures newsprint (annual production: 600,000 tonnes) from wood and recycled paper. It is headquartered in the Vosges region of France.
Yves is also the General Manager of Norske Skogindustrier Branch (NSIB, the French subsidiary of the NSI Group) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of PARENCO (paper mill, Netherlands). He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the SAPIN company (a timber supply company). In addition, he represents the profession in many organisations in the pulp and paper industry and is Chairman of PAPEST (the federation of Eastern France paper manufacturers with 24 member companies).
Yves BAILLY holds a degree in engineering (Ecole des Mines, Paris) and an MBA (HEC Paris).
He joined NORSKE SKOG GOLBEY in 1992, successively holding a number of positions within that company, including Production Manager and Assistant General Manager. In 2005, he is appointed Vice President and Technical Director of Pan Asia in Seoul (South Korea).
He has been at the helm of NORSKE SKOG GOLBEY ever since 2006, first as General Manager, and now President, General Manager.
